How Much Data Does a Call Use? (Including Roaming Explained)

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Talk360 uses mobile data or Wi-Fi to place calls. Understanding how much data is used and how roaming works helps you avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Data Does a Talk360 Call Use?

Talk360 is designed to be data-efficient.

  • Approx. 86–92 KB per minute

  • That’s about 5–6 MB per hour

💡 This is much lower than video calls or streaming and makes Talk360 suitable even on limited data plans.

What Does This Mean in Practice?

To make it easy to understand:

  • 10-minute call: ~5–10 MB

  • 30-minute call: ~15–30 MB

  • 1-hour call: up to ~60 MB

💡 This is much lower than video calls or streaming and makes Talk360 ideal for long international calls.

Wi-Fi vs Mobile Data

  • Using Wi-Fi:
No extra charges from your mobile provider

  • Using mobile data (3G / 4G / LTE / 5G):
Data usage counts against your mobile internet plan
Any costs depend on your carrier and data bundle

Understanding Roaming Charges

When you travel abroad, and roaming is enabled, your phone may connect to a foreign network. This can lead to higher charges, depending on your mobile provider and destination.

Important Things to Know About Roaming

  • Roaming charges can apply even if you don’t make calls

  • Mobile data usage while roaming can be expensive

  • Many users forget to turn off roaming when traveling

  • Charges vary by country and mobile carrier

To avoid surprises, always check roaming prices or packages with your mobile provider before traveling.

EU Roaming vs Other Countries

🇪🇺 Roaming Within the EU

Thanks to the “Roam Like at Home” policy:

  • You can use your mobile plan across EU countries

  • No extra roaming fees (within fair-use limits)

  • Data, calls, and SMS work as they do at home

Roaming Outside the EU

  • Roaming charges usually do apply

  • Prices vary widely by country

  • Data roaming can become expensive quickly

Always confirm rates with your provider when traveling outside the EU.

Types of Roaming Charges You May Encounter

When abroad, mobile users may face:

  • Voice roaming: Making or receiving regular calls

  • SMS roaming: Sending or receiving text messages

  • Data roaming: Using mobile internet (apps, browsing, emails)

  • Voicemail roaming: Listening to voicemail messages

Important for Talk360 Users

ℹ️ Talk360 only uses data roaming, not voice or SMS roaming.

This means:

  • If data roaming is ON and you use Talk360 on mobile data, your carrier may charge you

  • To avoid extra costs:

    • Turn off data roaming, or

    • Use Talk360 only on Wi-Fi while abroad

Tips to Save Data & Avoid Extra Costs

  • Use Wi-Fi whenever possible

  • Turn data roaming off when traveling

  • Close background apps that use data

  • Keep the app updated for best efficiency

  • Monitor data usage in your phone settings

ℹ️ Good to know
The person you’re calling does not use the internet or data at all. They only need regular mobile coverage. Only you, the caller, needs an internet connection.
